WINNERS OF the “Colors of the Holidays” FUNDRAISER

The Florida Writers Foundation hosted a mini writing competition to celebrate the holidays and raise funds to promote literacy.

In the Poetry category, our 2nd runner-up was Su Gerheim, whose poem was titled “Ode to Colors of the Holidays.” The 1st runner up was “Caregiver’s Christmas” by Phyllis McKinley. And the winner of the Poetry category was Thornton Blease who submitted “Hearts Waiting in the Snow.”

The Prose category produced a 2nd runner-up with “Holiday Hues” by Marie Brack. The 1st runner-up was “Gladys’ Cookies” by Myrna Ossin. And the winner of the Prose category was Elizabeth Vollstadt’s short story titled “A Glimpse of Christmas Joy.”

And thanks to Rob Sanders for reminding us of the gifts we need to give ourselves and to Joyce Sweeney for sharing tips on publishing poetry and alerting us to the poet muse that lives within us. And a special thanks to Joyce Sweeney and Bill Opperman for judging.
